The File menu allows to create new or open existing race files,and to save the race file using its name or to save it as a new file.
The suffix of the VelumNG race files is *.vng.
As you open a race file VelumNG will NOT work on the race file directly.
Instead VelumNG creates a temporary copy of the race file (*.~vng) in which all input, as soon as a dialog windows are being closed, is saved.
If you choose <file save> the temporary work file is used to replace the original file.
When restarting VelumNG after power loss or system crash you will have the option to resume work on the temporary file that was left behind during the crash.
In this case all the data will show up, except for the data of the very last edit fields.
Note:
At the current status of VelumNG development, network access or simultaneous multi-user access to the same racefile is not allowed and not possible.
