Yachts
On the Yachts Dialog
The yachts dialog extends over three subpages
- Tabular View of the yachts for a good overview of the whole list.
You can sort the listing and/or restrict it to a particular class.
- Detail View of the yachts for editing the data of the yachts.
For your convenience, in addition to the editor fields, it provides a small listing of the
yachts, which allows you to navigate through the yachts easily while staying on this
subpage.
You can enter a free-text search string and sort the listing, to find yachts quickly.
Additionally there are several choices of sorting the list.
Sorting the list by names.
If you select sorting by the name of the helsman please take note of the following
mechanism:
If there is no comma in the name string, then sorting is done by the last word in the
name-field, e.g. "Paul Mayer" but also "Mayer Paul". If you want the names to appear in
the order lastname then firstname, please put a comma between lastname and
firstname, with the effect that VelumNG will use the word before the comma as sorting
criterion, e.g. "Mayer, Paul".
Select (and activate) the datafields you want to have available for editing and listing
the yachts.
Assigning yachts to scoring classes
When entering a yacht you can directly assign her to one or more scoring classes she shall belong to. In the yachts dialog select the subpage detail view and there the subpage groups.
Keep in mind:
You are only required to select the basic class(es).
Limiting the participation of the yacht
This quite advanced feature is for regattas longer than a one race series only:
Then, it is sometimes required to remove yachts from the list for particular races (perhaps for particular classes only).
You find the participation options on the subpage "Handicaps & Groups". You can set the participation of the yacht globally for all scoring classes or different for particular scoring classes.
Importing yachts from other VNG-regattas or other file types
You can import yachts from
- other existing *.VNG racefiles
- DOS-Velum yacht lists (saved as *.VEX)
- Next Regatta Generation files
- *.TXT/*.CSV files
This function is accessed by the button "import" on the "VNG Yachts" dialog.
Initially the files that are to be used for import must be noted in the file list dialog,
except for the import from txt/csv, where the file is selected within this dialog and which requires manual assignment of the datafields. This is done by selecting the button File List which opens a dialog called VelumNG Files. Select Add for Adding a file to the list in a simular way like in windows. You may select a file and remove it by the button Remove.
Then some search strings might be entered to limit the search results to the yachts of your interest.
Open the subpage related to the file type you want search in, then press the button "refresh".
The search result will be displayed in a table.
Select the yacht(s) you want to import, then press the button "import".
The yachts are transferred into the actual yachts list.
Be aware that from old or other file types not all datafields might be available for your VNG yachts list.
Check the data of the imported yachts in the subpage "Detail View" within the "Yachts" dialog.
Especially the ORCint or ORC-Club certificates can often not be imported;
anyhow, sometimes the fileID or certificate number still is being imported, which then in turn allows to recreate complete certificates by calling the "Certificate Refresh" function from the yachts menu afterwards.
File list
The file list is used to declare all the files that shall be used to import from.
VelumNG race files (*.vng),
DOS-Velum yacht list exports (*.vex)
NRG race files (*.nrg)
Note: Import from *.txt and *.csv files must be done file by file, since this requires extra input for the field assignments, etc.
Importing certificates from RMS-files
As a first step you should make the certificate files known to VelumNG by declaring them in the RMS file list. This is done in the subpage Detail View of the yachts dialog by selecting the Search ORCint-Certificate button. Enter the names of the certificate-files in the Used-RMS-Files-List (RMS file list). Use Add/Remove to edit this list.
To find and import the certificates you want, you first should specify some search criteria and then press the "search" button.
Select the dataset that you want to import in the listing and press the "apply" button.
You can even import multiple certificates at once. To do so, please select all datasets that you want to have in the listing, then press the "apply" button. The first dataset of the selection will be imported as usual into the yacht's dialog, all other datasets will be stored as new yachts in the yachts list.
To create a new ORCint or ORC-Club yacht, you can directly start with the certificate import process. Then, also some yacht data (sailno, yachtname, owner, type, etc.) will be imported into the dataset of the new yacht.
However, if a certificate is assigned to an existing yacht, these data of the cerrtificate (sailno, yachtname, owner, type, etc.) will not be used to replace any existing values.
RMS Files
ORCint- and ORC-Club-Certifcates are stored in *.RMS type files which are available from the national sailing associations.
Add the *.rms files in the file list, to make them available for reading certificate data from them.
Editing the ORCint or ORC-Club certificate
If a certificate is missing in the RMS file it might become necessary to enter the certificate manually.
Editing the certificates is done on the certificate raw data, there are only very few ways to check the data, and the input must be done very thoroughly.
It is the users responsibility to enter consistent and correct responsibility!
The right column displays the checksum for validation with the original certificate sheet.
Certificate Refresh: Updating all certificates at once
This powerfull function lets you have checked and updated all certificates at once.
The process is started by pressing the "refresh" button.
VelumNG now checks all certificates that are found in the *.rms file list.
A certificate is identified by the NAT and the FILEID, additionally also by the CERTNO in Germany .
A log is created to inform about what was done.
